[Hybrid Chiptune] Sunken Wastes

By Mortistar on November 25, 2018 11:56 pm

Ello' there week 47. It's been a busy week, with assignment deadlines fast approaching (and me playing a ton of old Tomb Raider games), I've barely had time for music! But, I have been working on a gamejam and ended up making this tune (that may or may not just be a complete rip-off of Disasterpeace but hey ho). Been super influenced by the Hyper Light Drifter soundtrack recently, and it's a lot of fun writing a piece completely based on emotion instead of trying to fit a specific setting or console style when I write most of my music. As always, slap me with that feedback, and thanks for listening!

I've never played it, so all I can say is that it's nice and that there probably isn't such a thing as hybrid chiptune.

This is great. Simple in a way, but also suspenseful and dramatic. Love the melodies, the reverby parts, that distorted bass, the slow pacing, it's all really well done. Definitely a favorite for the week.

Definitely not a rip off, although I can definitely hear the disasterpeace influence. I think its a specific chord that harkens to his style but I don't have the ear training to know what to call that chord haha. Overall I think the tone is very cool, especially like the soft melody that reveals itself here and there throughout the track.
